ii. As soon as the light in the bedroom went out, there was a stirring and a fluttering all through the farm buildings. Word had gone round during the day that old Major, the prize Middle White boar, had had a strange dream on the previous night and wished to communicate it to the other animals. it had been agreed that they should all meet in the big barn as soon as Mr. Jones was safely out of the way. Old Major was so highly regarded on the farm that everyone was quite ready to lose an hour’s sleep in order to hear what he had to say.

iii. All the animals were now present except Moses, the tame raven, who slept on a perch behind the back door. When Major saw that they had all made themselves comfortable and were waiting attentively, he cleared his throat and began:

‘Comrades, you have heard already about the strange dream that I had last night. But I will come to the dream later. I have something else to say first. I do not think, comrades that I shall be with you for many months longer, and before I die, I feel it may duty to pass on to you such wisdom as I have acquired. I have had a long life, I have had much time for thought as I lay alone in my stall, and I think I may say that I understand the nature of life on this earth as well as any animal now living. It is about this that I wish to speak to you.’

iv. ‘Now, comrades, what is the nature of this life of ours? Let us face it; our lives are miserable, laborious, and short. We are born, we are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies, and those of us who are capable of it are forced to work to the last atom of our strength; and the very instant that our usefulness has come to an end we are slaughtered with hideous cruelty.’ (George Orwell’s Animal Farm)

1. Write a speech of your own on Challenges and Opportunities in the National Education Policy (NEP) and its implementation. 20

Ans) On July 29, the Union Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the National Education Policy (NEP) for 2020. With the start of NEP, there are now new ways of thinking about higher education, and if the NEP-2020 is carried out well, India hopes to become a place where people come from all over the world to get a high-quality education at a price they can afford. NEP looks at important things like Holistic, Multidisciplinary, and Future-Oriented Education, Quality Research, and Fair Use of Technology to Improve Education. Given how important it is, "Impact of NEP 2020" is likely to be a popular GD topic and interview question for MBA and other entrance exams. MBAUniversity.com shows the most important facts and what this policy is likely to do. Read this report all the way through to get the full picture.

The first step of the New Education Policy is to finish what the 1986 NEP didn't. NEP—1986 was set in an India that was very different. Access and fairness have come a long way in the past few decades. Nearly everyone is enrolled in primary school, and the number of people enrolled in higher education has gone up to 26.3% of the population. But the quality of education in public schools has gone down, and people from the elite and middle classes are leaving. This also made it harder for people to be held accountable. Even though learning doesn't pay off well, pay structures in public systems have been slowly going up. The Policy itself looks impressive but putting it into action is where the real challenge lies. Since education is on the concurrent list in the Constitution, a few states are sure to fight back. Another big problem is that there are a lot of boards, and their content and standards are all different. But the biggest problem will be coming up with a new curriculum and teaching method for each of the four stages of education and putting them into practise on the ground. India has one of the most diverse school systems in the world, with more than 1.5 million schools and about 250 million students from different backgrounds. This is going to be a nightmare, especially since India has one of the most diverse school systems in the world. Another big problem will be getting the 10 million teachers, many of whom grew up in rural areas, to think differently. The other quality check issue that needs to be fixed is the lack of accreditation at the school level. India to the next orbit may be a serious and good goal for the government, but making it happen will be the real challenge. If the Policy is going to reach its goals, everyone who has an interest in it needs to work together to make it happen. There is no doubt that the young people who come out of the new school system will be very different and think for themselves. They will be true representatives of the new, aspirational India. And let's reach our goals as soon as possible and make India the "hub of knowledge" that it used to be.

The new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a good policy because it aims to make the education system holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, and in line with the needs of the 21st century and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. In many ways, the goal of a policy seems to be a good one, but the key to success lies in how it is put into place.

2. You are resident of a locality in Delhi. Write a report on various steps taken by your residential locality to improve environment in your neighbourhood. 20

Ans) The area around Delhi is very built up, and most of the industries are in the mix area. Because of this, there is no buffer zone. Large and medium-sized units for textiles, dyes, fertilisers, thermal power, oil refineries, and pharmaceuticals are mostly running in Delhi. Engineering, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Electronic, Electrical, and other SSI units are also located in industrial estates and other parts of the jurisdiction. Textile units, dyes, and basic drugs have moved out of the city area or shut down because they can't grow there anymore, and the economy is bad. The way land is used is also changing, and it is being turned into a residential and business complex.

The various steps taken by my residential locality to improve environment in our neighbourhood are as follows:

  1. A good way for Resident Welfare Associations to help with garbage collection and sorting from homes and communities.

  2. Residents everywhere are taking steps to turn their trash into compost.

  3. More trees should be planted in the area.

  4. Keeping a close eye on how much pollution each car is making.

  5. Using CNG more often.

  6. Taking care of all kinds of trash in the right way.

  7. Sticking to the 3Rs rules: Recycle, use, and cut down.

  8. Buses and subways are better than cars and scooters because they can carry many more people at once. When you can, try to carpool.

  9. Keeping track of how much energy is used and making good use of electricity.

  10. Using less chemicals, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers, and so on.

From the survey and monitoring data, it's clear that Delhi and the area around it need extra care from the agencies in charge, so the role of an environmental protection agency in the state is crucial. To coordinate the different environmental activities of different agencies, we need to work together to build strong infrastructure facilities for regulating and implementing environmental rules. We need to have strong technical and resource support for this action so that the Regional set-up can be streamlined and made stronger.

3. Your friend is visiting Delhi and has written to you to suggest a good place to stay for a week. Write a letter to her suggesting a good hotel for accommodation.. 15

Ans) Dear Esha,

Hope you are doing fine. I received your letter last week, and I am glad that you have finally decided to visit my town – Delhi. Delhi is a great a town reflecting the Indian culture and values but at the same time is modern. Personally, I am sure that you will have a fantastic time and will create a lot of fun memories that you will cherish for lifetime.

I understand that you planning to visit Delhi in December, which is perfect as the weather will not be too harsh. In terms of places to visit, there are tons of tourist places to visit however, I would like to recommend few must historic places that shouldn’t miss like India Gate. Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Hauz Khas Fort, Humayun's Tomb, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Jantar Mantar, Akshardham Temple and Sarojini Nagar – shopping hub for women. Many tourists have a notion that accommodation in Mumbai is expensive, which isn’t true. There are many hotels in Mumbai that are affordable and comfortable for stay. I would recommend few hotels like Hotel Lemon Tree Premiere, Hotel Foxoso, Hotel The Tark. These hotels are centrally located and near the airport thus making travelling easy and convenient.

Please share your flight ticket details, I would be happy to receive you at the airport. Give my regards to your parents.

Regards,

ABC.
